Community Projects
As part of SoundSkool’s ongoing commitment to music outreach, we are proud of our collaboration and community-based projects.
Current Projects
SoundSkool X Ian Mikardo High School
SoundSkool were approached by IMHS in Nov 2019 to start a music project with a mixed year group of students aged between 11-19.
Offering a mix of music production and rap programmes, SoundSkool began delivering physical workshops at the school, as well as helping IMSH to organise all of their music equipment and studio space, before shifting to a virtual programme in order to continue to deliver the project during the pandemic.
Max, one of SoundSkool’s outreach production tutors is also the creator of the online platform Charanga, which allows students to access music production software straight from a laptop or desktop, without needing any specialist hardware or software, which opened up access for all students to the online project.
This programme has been a huge success for students and the school, so much so that it has been extended to deliver another day of music for an additional group.
One of the project’s first students, who has attended regularly throughout, entered and won one of Charanga’s monthly beat-making competitions, whilst another has begun sharing his production skills in his new foster home, allowing him to develop relationships outside of the project.
Working online with these groups has been such fun and we’re looking forward to hearing more music and our Friday listening sessions!
Previous Projects
SoundSkool X Enfield Youth
Our relationship with Enfield Youth enabled our students to undertake work experience at Edmonton’s Craig Park Youth Centre. They promoted the centre’s resources to the local youth community as well as offering taster sessions in performance, songwriting and studio production in the centre’s custom built recording studio.
SoundSkool X RAF
Our community outreach project in partnership with the Royal Air Force Museum saw local 14-18 year olds undertake a week intensive music performance course, culminating in a Rock School qualification and community performance.
