#SaveSoundSkool

A few weeks ago, we announced to our students and staff that we will no longer be contracting with CONEL (College of North East London and Haringey) for the academic year of 2018-2019, due to a merger of CONEL into the Capital City College Group. We've been working tirelessly since to secure the funding, premises and equipment to continue the college to start September 2018 as originally planned.

SoundSkool provides our students with more than a place to master their craft and hone their skills. You can support our students by making a one-off or monthly donation.

What we need:

Equipment - Macs, Midi keyboards, musical instruments (guitars and pianos), PA’s, studio equipment and anything that would benefit music education. Equipment donations welcome.

Premises- to run our provision from. The minimum space we need to run the provision as it stands is three classrooms, a rehearsal room and studio space.

Funding- to run the best possible provision we can by providing showcases, masterclasses, work experience opportunities, keyboard skills, guitar skills, pastoral care, 1-1 mentoring and more.

Following the merger of CONEL into the Capital City College Group, the wider college has a surplus of 16-18 year olds, meaning they have more than they are currently funded for.

Subsequently, the college has made the decision to end the subcontracting of the 16-18 provision group-wide, including their contract with SoundSkool.

We have 70 students that do not have a secure college space for next semester. 40 of these students are returning student, 20 of whom are on a two-year course which is worth 3 A Levels, to be left without a place to study will seriously affect their chances of attending University. Six of the 70 students have got Educational healthcare plans, two of these students were on track to attend university. Our specialist staff who have given their heart and soul to SoundSkool are also left without a job in September.

However, due to the very late notice of this news, we will also be supporting students in securing a back-up/plan B option in the event of us not being able to secure this. The future of our students is our biggest priority, so we want to ensure that they have a definite placement for September.
