With more than 35 years’ experience in music education, Liz brings a wealth of leadership, teaching and industry expertise to the role of Head of College at SoundSkool. Throughout a career spanning primary, secondary, sixth form and specialist post-16 education, she has been passionate about creating inclusive, ambitious learning environments where young musicians can develop their creativity, confidence and professional skills.
Before joining SoundSkool, Liz was Vice Principal and Director of Music at East London Arts and Music (ELAM), where she played a key role in establishing the academy from its inception. Working collaboratively to develop its ethos, curriculum and systems, she helped build a thriving institution that achieved an Outstanding Ofsted judgement. Prior to this, she spent thirteen years leading the Music Department at The BRIT School, where she oversaw curriculum development, staff development, industry partnerships and performance programmes, contributing to the school’s outstanding reputation for nurturing exceptional musical talent.
Alongside senior leadership roles, Liz has worked extensively as a freelance music education consultant, supporting schools and colleges with curriculum design, quality assurance, timetabling, staff development and strategic planning. Her longstanding relationship with SoundSkool as an educational consultant has given her a deep understanding of the college’s values, community and aspirations, making her appointment as Head of College a natural progression. A musician as well as an educator, Liz is an experienced pianist, trumpeter, singer, composer and musical director. She continues to teach individual students, lead choirs and musical theatre productions, and believes that practical music-making lies at the heart of outstanding education. Her experience spans classical, contemporary and commercial music, and she is committed to helping students discover their own artistic voice while preparing them for successful futures in the creative industries.

She is passionate about building strong teams, fostering meaningful partnerships with industry and the wider community, and ensuring that education is both creatively inspiring and personally transformative. As Head of College, she is excited to lead SoundSkool into its next chapter, building on its unique strengths while continuing to provide an exceptional and supportive learning experience for every student.
