Dave has been an active musician for the past 30+ years. Music is a central part of Dave’s life, and music production has become an integral part of this skill set, combining his experience as a multi-instrumentalist, performer, mixer and educator. Having first started playing drums at around the age of ten, he later developed skills on keyboards and bass, giving him a strong understanding of rhythm, harmony, arrangement and the different roles musicians play within a recording.
He has worked across a wide range of music-production projects, mixing albums and EPs for various artists, including Natalie Duncan’s (Incognito) latest album Black Moon. He is particularly passionate about the process of developing an initial musical idea into a finished track, from songwriting and arrangement through to recording, editing and mixing. His extensive background as a live musician also informs his production work, helping him capture performances that feel expressive, natural and musically engaging.
Throughout his career, he has performed at thousands of gigs, including festivals, original artist shows, cover performances and long-running London residencies at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Club 606, The Piano Works and Albert’s Schloss. This experience has given him a practical understanding of musicianship, collaboration, preparation and how music connects with an audience.
He has been teaching for 20 years at various major music institutions, including Drumtech and BIMM. At SoundSkool, he is passionate about helping students develop both the creative and technical skills needed to produce their own music with confidence. He aims to create an encouraging and practical learning environment in which students can experiment, strengthen their musicianship, refine their production techniques and begin developing their own individual creative identity.
